Make a Difference--Volunteer with HFH!
Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer organization from top to bottom. We are governed by volunteers. The work is planned and promoted by volunteers. Volunteers do the construction of our houses. Even our homeowners serve as volunteers.
There is a place in Habitat for virtually anyone with the desire to further our mission. While we certainly need construction volunteers, that is only a small part of the work it takes to build a simple, decent house with families in need. Your skills may be more suited to committee work, office work, or helping in our HomeMart store. Please contact the Executive Director or committee chairperson if you are interested in helping in any of the areas listed below or to explore other options of serving.
Committees-The work of Habitat is accomplished through faithful, hardworking committees. These committees include Family Support, Family Selection, Communication/Promotion, Fundraising/Development, Church Relations, and Volunteer Development. If you are interested in working on one of these committees contact the Executive Director and fill out our committee application.
HomeMart-The HomeMart is a store where donated items are sold to generate funds for the mission of Habitat. Volunteers are needed for donation pick-ups, cashiers, floor clerks, receiving clerks, product cleaning and display, and procurement. See the HomeMart page for more details.
Construction-By far the most popular work of Habitat is the construction. The biggest need is for House Leaders. These are persons with extensive building experience who guide the process of building one home from beginning to end. Crew leaders are also needed. These are persons with some building experience, who can lead a group of 4 – 5 persons in completing a specific building task. Of course much of the construction is done by volunteers with little or no experience. To volunteer for construction check out the calendar for workdays. Contact the Executive Director or construction committee chairperson for an application.
Students-College students are extremely helpful in the ministry of Habitat. There are active Habitat chapters at Berry College and Shorter College. Students find this to be a great way to fellowship and live out their personal values. Students have helped with lot preparation, construction, landscaping, and at the HomeMart. Students are also a valuable asset in the office, where their computer skills and telephone experience can be leveraged.
